Building an Internet Business that Represents the Future

Quite a few years ago I got involved with what is known as a network marketing business. What the business basically consisted of was a recruiting campaign to get more people into the business in order to help sell the products on offer through the company, and to build a large network of people with this aim in mind. These people were described as the down line. If you were able to recruit people into the business you not only earned commission from the products you were able to sell but also in part from the products your down line sold. I listened to the pitch, reviewed the products and deep down inside something told me that this was a great way to build a business. Although I believed the products to be of a high quality, I found over time that the business plan I was following was seriously flawed. Each month you were expected to buy self improvement products in the form of tapes and books, plus there were seminars that you were required to attend which could be pretty much anywhere in the country. Any products sold had to be delivered in person to your down line and you were also expected to hold regular face to face meetings with your up line. All this in addition to trying to recruit new people by going to their homes and presenting the business to them and trying to hold down a full time job. The bottom line was that I spent all of my spare time, after work that is, running around the country, spending money on fuel, self improvement products and review products. You were required to have knowledge of and demonstrate the products, which was one aspect of the business I really couldn't argue with. But the consequence was absolutely no profit and a lot of extremely hard work and time away from my young family. The only positive I could say I took from the experience was that I improved my presentation skills by an order of magnitude and some of those self improvement books and tapes must have paid off. I quit the business, went back to college, got a first class honours degree in technology and rose to become the head of a research and development organisation in the UK. So all my life'e experience should have told me that following the standard route of getting a good education and then seeking promotion in the corporate world is the best model for a career path. It should also have told me that network marketing sucks and should not be touched with a barge pole. But something nagged at me and ultimately I couldn't settle for the corporate world and decided to quit and take my chances in the South of France building my own businesses. I have also recently been introduced to a new business that is network marketing based, but I hasten to add, is a million miles from the business I described above. You see the principal, I realise now and suspected at the time, was good, it was the implementation and methods that were flawed. The model used was in fact destined to failure because it simply wasn't cost effective. The new network marketing business I have been introduced to on the other hand is, in my opinion, a glimpse into the future. Believe me when I tell you I never ever thought I would be making that statement about a network marketing business after my first experience. Anyway time to get off the soapbox and just to say you know where to look to find out more.
Since moving to France and starting a new web design business I have had to learn about SEO and blogging in order to support that business. For the last 2 years I have sifted the wheat from the chaff and recorded my learning process to hopefully benefit others.

Regards Rita Thanks for getting back to me Brian...basically I am very interested, but still chewing on it...I have been soooooo burnt in the past and since I started dialysis, my time is very prescious and I do not want to waste it. Hi Rita, yes it's a shame there isn't more truth on the Internet. I would be interested to know what you think of the business, it is really only just gaining momentum after many years in development and some significant investment. So a great time to get involved.
